Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a laser treatment used in open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertensive patients. An increase in the intraocular pressure occurs due to a problem in the drainage of the fluid or aqueous humor from the eye. Thus there is a buildup of the fluid in the eye leading to increased intraocular pressure.
When light enters the eye, it is focused on a photosensitive retina to provide clear vision. Abnormalities in the cornea (transparent outer layer of the eye), such as excessive curvature (near-sightedness) or dryness, causes light to focus before or after the retina, resulting in blurred vision.
